The ISCAR 5508493 is a TNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose and finish turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the IC807 manufacturer grade, a submicron carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiN and TiAlN multilayer coating that supports wear resistance across a wide range of cutting conditions. The triangular insert body features a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The TF chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action and effective chip control, making this insert well-suited for medium to light cutting passes on a variety of workpiece materials.
This insert is rated for use across several ISO material groups, including P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), H (hardened materials), and S (superalloys and titanium). It is intended for professional machinists, toolroom technicians, and production turning applications where consistent tool life and dimensional accuracy are required. The insert seats using a clamp or pin holding method and conforms to ISO 13399 standards, making it compatible with standard TNMG toolholders. The maximum depth of cut is 0.118 inches (3.00 mm), positioning this insert for finishing and semi-finishing work rather than heavy roughing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard TNMG toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick triangular insert with a clamp or pin clamping method. Compatible with toolholders conforming to ISO TNMG 331 insert seat specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel following standard indexable insert change procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing any insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert geometry, as overloading a finishing insert can cause premature edge failure or insert fracture.
