The ISCAR 5508479 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert identified by tool designation ICM0634, manufactured in grade IC908 with a submicron carbide substrate. This tip is designed for high-performance drilling in demanding workpiece materials including stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The TiAlN coating is applied via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and edge durability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The drill tip features a 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point and T-Land style geometry, which reduces entry forces and improves chip evacuation. It fits into the ICM series replaceable tip drill body system and is the intended replacement consumable for that platform.
This tip is suited for machining centers and CNC drilling operations where abrasion-resistant workpiece materials require a robust, wear-resistant cutting geometry. Primary applications include drilling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing environments. Secondary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, and hard materials, broadening the utility of this insert across general machining shops. The slow spiral flute type and thinned web point make it particularly well-matched to gummy, work-hardening materials where chip control and reduced thrust force are critical. Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom personnel following the ICM series tool assembly procedure.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for ISCAR ICM series drill bodies, insert seat size 16, ISO number ICM 161. Compatible primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S). Secondary compatible materials include steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO codes P, K, and H).
This replaceable tip insert is installed and removed by a machinist or toolroom technician following the tool manufacturer assembly instructions for ICM series drill bodies. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is secured in a vise or fixture before swapping tips. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new tip, as contamination in the seat bore affects runout and can accelerate premature insert failure. Follow the torque and clamping procedure specified in the ISCAR ICM series tool assembly documentation.
