The ISCAR 5508474 is a replaceable drill tip designed for use in modular drilling systems where the cutting head is indexed or swapped without replacing the full drill body. Built from solid carbide with an IC908 submicron grade, this tip features a TiAlN PVD coating and a honed cutting edge for consistent performance in demanding metal-cutting applications. The 140-degree drill point angle and web-thinned point geometry reduce entry force and improve centering. With a cutting diameter of 0.6420 inches and a functional length of 0.2690 inches, the 5508474 fits the ICP series insert seat size 16. Installation is performed by machining professionals in production and job-shop environments.
The 5508474 is suited for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material, with rated capability across stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The slow spiral flute type and twist-style insert holding method make this tip appropriate for short-to-medium depth holes where chip evacuation and tool stability are priorities. It is used in CNC drilling centers and milling machines equipped with compatible ICP series drill bodies. This tip does not incorporate through-coolant; flood or mist coolant applied externally is the standard cooling method for this configuration.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICP series modular drill bodies at insert seat size 16. ISO number ICP 163 identifies the specific seat and tip pairing. Confirm seat size and series compatibility with the drill body before ordering.
Replaceable drill tips of this type are installed and removed by machining technicians using the torque specifications provided by the drill body manufacturer for the specific ICP holder. Always index or replace the tip with the machine in a de-energized, locked-out state per applicable machine safety procedures. Inspect the insert seat for damage, debris, or wear before seating a new tip, as a compromised seat will affect runout and hole quality. Do not use damaged or mismatched seat sizes, as improper seating can cause tip ejection during operation.
