The ISCAR 5508436 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert for use with compatible ICM-series drill bodies. Designated ICM0579 and manufactured to the IC908 submicron carbide grade, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process for enhanced wear resistance and heat management in demanding drilling applications. The cutting diameter is 0.579 inches, with a drill point angle of 140 degrees and a thinned web geometry for reduced thrust and improved chip formation. The T-Land style cutting edge and slow spiral flute configuration make it well suited to interrupted cuts and tough workpiece materials. Installation and replacement are performed by licensed machinists and tooling specialists in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered for primary use in stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes M and S. Secondary workpiece compatibility covers steel, cast iron, and hard materials under ISO codes P, K, and H. The ICM series is a modular, replaceable-tip drill system that allows tip exchange without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing changeover time in high-volume drilling operations. The insert conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards, supporting integration with tool management and CAM software systems.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICM-series replaceable-tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 14, ISO number ICM 147. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO M and S). Secondary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO P, K, and H).
Replaceable tip drill inserts are installed and changed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine power is locked out before handling any insert or drill body. Seat the insert fully into the ICM drill body using the appropriate torque key per the drill body manufacturer guidelines and verify secure engagement before resuming operation. Do not exceed the rated cutting parameters for the IC908 grade when machining superalloys or titanium, as premature edge failure may result.
