Product Description

The ISCAR 5508422 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for the ICP series drilling system. Manufactured to ISO 13399 standards, this insert carries the IC908 grade with a submicron carbide substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The tip features a 140-degree included angle with a thinned point geometry and a honed cutting edge. Cutting diameter is 0.559 inches, with a functional length of 0.236 inches and an overall height of 0.321 inches. The slow spiral, two-flute configuration promotes chip evacuation and stable entry in a range of workpiece materials. Installation is a twist-lock interface, seating into ICP series insert seat size 14 bodies.

This replaceable tip insert is suited for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material, and is also rated for stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The ICP series platform is commonly used in CNC machining centers and mill-turn applications where a repeatable, indexable drill tip minimizes downtime compared to regrinding solid drills. The TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance needed when drilling high-strength alloys and hardened materials without through-coolant delivery on this specific tip geometry.

Key Features

  • IC908 submicron carbide grade with PVD TiAlN coating for wear resistance in steel and hard materials
  • 140-degree thinned point geometry reduces thrust force and improves self-centering on entry
  • Honed cutting edge finish promotes edge stability and reduces built-up edge in stainless and super-alloys
  • Slow spiral flute design supports controlled chip flow in short-chipping and tough materials
  • Twist-lock insert holding method enables fast, repeatable tip replacement without removing the drill body
  • Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards for compatibility with CAM and tool management systems

Compatibility

Designed for use with ISCAR ICP series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 14, ISO number ICP 142, with a 0.559-inch cutting diameter interface.

Installation Notes

Installation and replacement of carbide tip inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the drill body spindle is powered off and the machine is in a locked-out state before seating or removing the tip. Use the correct torque wrench or key specified by the tool body manufacturer when securing the insert; over-torquing the twist-lock seat can damage the carbide tip or the body pocket. Inspect the insert seat for chips, debris, or wear before each tip change to maintain runout tolerance and cutting accuracy.
