The ISCAR 5508409 is a replaceable drill tip designed for use with modular drilling systems in demanding metal-cutting applications. Manufactured from solid carbide in the IC908 submicron grade, it delivers consistent cutting performance in stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium. The tip features a 140-degree included angle, a thinned web point, and a slow spiral flute geometry with a T-Land insert style. A PVD-applied TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. The cutting diameter is 0.5310 inches (17/32 inch), with a functional length of 0.2190 inches and a height of 0.2990 inches. This tip is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working with CNC and conventional drilling equipment.
The 5508409 is suited for drilling operations in stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, and is also rated for steel, cast iron, and hard materials as secondary workpiece materials. The ICM series modular design allows the tip to be swapped at the machine without removing the full drill body, reducing downtime during high-production runs. It is well matched to applications requiring close-tolerance hole quality in aerospace, energy, and general metalworking environments. The tip seats in an insert seat size 13 holder using a twist-lock holding method.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICM series modular drill bodies requiring an insert seat size 13 and ISO number ICM 135. Compatible with CNC machining centers and conventional drill presses using the ICM modular tooling platform.
Installation and replacement of modular drill tips should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before handling the tip or holder. Use the appropriate ISCAR torque key or wrench for the twist-lock seat to achieve correct seating without over-torquing the interface. Inspect the insert seat for chips, debris, or wear before installing a new tip.
