The ISCAR 5508391 is a solid carbide replaceable drill tip designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding materials. Part of the ICM series, it carries a 0.4960-inch (13.00 mm) cutting diameter and is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process for heat resistance and extended tool life. The IC908 grade uses a submicron carbide substrate, making it well suited for interrupted cuts and thermally challenging workpieces. This tip installs into compatible ICM-style drill bodies and is the component replaced at end of life rather than the full tool assembly. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers.

Primary applications include drilling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S). Secondary applications cover steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO codes P, K, and H). The 140-degree drill point angle and web-thinned geometry reduce thrust force at entry, which is particularly useful in stainless and nickel-based alloys that work-harden quickly. Helical flutes with a regular spiral promote chip evacuation in deep-hole passes. This tip is suited for CNC machining centers in both horizontal and vertical orientations where controlled feed and speed parameters are maintained.

Installation Notes

Installation and removal of replaceable drill tips should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a powered-off, locked-out state. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified for the ICM body to seat the tip fully without overtightening. Inspect the insert seat for debris or damage before fitting a new tip, as a contaminated seat will affect runout and tip life. This tip does not support coolant-through delivery; ensure coolant is applied externally and directed at the cutting zone.
