The ISCAR 5508303 is an ICM-series replaceable carbide tip drill insert designed for high-precision hole-making in demanding materials. The insert is manufactured from submicron solid carbide in the IC908 grade and finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for thermal resistance and edge retention at elevated cutting temperatures. The geometry features a 140-degree included angle, a thinned web point, slow spiral fluting with two flutes, and a T-Land style cutting edge. The insert measures 0.461 inches in cutting diameter and 0.26 inches in height. Machinists and tooling technicians install this tip into compatible ICM-series drill bodies as a cost-effective alternative to replacing the full tool assembly.
This replaceable tip is engineered primarily for drilling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, where edge integrity and coating adhesion are critical. It also performs in secondary applications involving steel, cast iron, and hard materials. The T-Land edge preparation and thinned web reduce thrust forces and improve chip evacuation in tough, work-hardening materials. Typical use cases include production drilling in aerospace, medical, and energy sector components where tight tolerances and consistent hole quality are required.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICM-series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting an insert seat size 11, ISO number ICM 117. Confirm body compatibility by cross-referencing the ICM series seat designation before installation.
Installation and replacement of carbide drill tips should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with indexable tooling systems. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool assembly is secured in a fixture or vise before removing or seating the insert. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide tip. Inspect the insert seat for chips, debris, or damage before installing a new tip, as seating irregularities will affect runout and hole quality.
