Product Description

The ISCAR 5508163 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TNMG332GN designation, manufactured in the IC8150 grade and designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a CVD-applied TiCN plus Al2O3 coating stack that provides thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. With a 60-degree triangular shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert fits standard TNMG toolholders and delivers consistent performance across moderate to high cutting speeds. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers.

This insert belongs to the ISCAR Isoturn series and is rated for primary use on ISO P workpiece materials, which covers carbon and alloy steels, and secondary use on ISO K materials, which includes cast irons. It is well suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes where controlled chip evacuation and edge stability are required. The GN chip breaker geometry supports medium depths of cut up to 3.50 mm (0.1378 inches) and is effective on a range of ferrous materials common in general machining, automotive, and mechanical component manufacturing.

Key Features

  • IC8150 grade with CVD TiCN plus Al2O3 coating for high wear resistance on steel and cast iron
  • GN chip breaker geometry for effective chip control on semi-finishing and finishing cuts
  • 60-degree triangular insert shape with six usable cutting edges per insert
  • 1/32-inch corner radius for surface finish balance and edge strength
  • Compatible with clamp and pin insert holding methods for secure seating in TNMG toolholders
  • Meets ISO 13399 standards for tool data representation and integration

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit insert for TNMG-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick triangular carbide inserts with a 0.150-inch hole diameter. Verify holder specification against TNMG332 seating pocket dimensions before installation.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping method - clamp or pin - and ensure the insert seats fully and flush in the pocket before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rated for this insert geometry, and inspect the cutting edge for chipping after each use on interrupted or scaled surfaces.
