The ISCAR 5508145 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG style, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries an IC8250 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer PVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for extended wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert has a 35-degree diamond shape (V), a 0.0313-inch corner radius, and an inscribed circle diameter of 0.2815 inches (7.15 mm). Insert length is 0.488 inches (12.40 mm) and thickness is 0.156 inches. These geometry and coating characteristics make it well-suited for moderate-to-difficult turning applications where surface finish and tool life are priorities.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and is intended for turning steel and stainless steel workpieces, with a primary workpiece material classification of P and secondary classification of M per ISO coding. The NF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing passes and light-to-medium depth cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.118 inches (3.00 mm). It is compatible with holders using clamp and pin clamping methods with a clearance angle of N and tolerance code of M. This insert is a practical choice for production turning environments where consistent chip control and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed for use with VNMG-style turning toolholders that accept clamp and pin clamping, with a clearance code of N and tolerance code of M. Suitable for turning steel (P) and stainless steel (M) workpiece materials per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert.
