The ISCAR 5508143 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the IC8250 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied dual-layer coating of TiCN and Al2O3, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection across a broad range of cutting conditions. The insert measures 12.4 mm (0.4882 inches) in length with a 9/32-inch (0.2815-inch) inscribed circle, a 5/32-inch (0.1560-inch) thickness, and a 0.0079-inch corner radius. Positive rake geometry supports reduced cutting forces. This insert is part of the Isoturn series and is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians working in production and job-shop environments.
The 5508143 is suited for turning steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) workpiece materials, reflecting its dual primary workpiece material designation of P and M. The NF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and near-finishing passes, making it appropriate for applications requiring tight surface finish tolerances and controlled chip evacuation. The maximum depth of cut is 2.50 mm (0.0984 inches). Typical use cases include shaft turning, facing, and contour turning on CNC turning centers in both light production and precision machining environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for ISCAR Isoturn toolholders accepting VNMG-style inserts with a 9/32-inch inscribed circle, clamp and pin holding method, and N clearance angle. Verify toolholder pocket geometry before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the correct torque on the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping cutting edges prior to use.
