The ISCAR 5508101 is a DCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the IC8250 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, making it well suited for continuous and interrupted cuts on stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces. The 55-degree diamond shape provides a sharp, positive rake geometry that reduces cutting forces and helps control heat at the cutting edge. Insert length is 11.6 mm (0.4567 inches) with an inscribed circle of 3/8 inch and a corner radius of 1/64 inch. Screw-on holding method ensures repeatable indexing in compatible toolholders.
This insert belongs to the ISCAR Isoturn series and is intended for turning operations on stainless steel and steel components. Typical applications include external turning, facing, and profiling on general machining centers, turning cells, and job-shop lathes where tight tolerances and good surface finish on ferrous and stainless workpieces are required. The SM chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-depth cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 2.5 mm (0.0984 inches). It is used by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for DCMT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, 5/32 inch thick, 55-degree diamond insert. Optimized for primary workpiece materials stainless steel (ISO material code M) and steel (ISO material code P).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seat and shim for debris or damage before seating a new insert to avoid premature edge failure.
