The ISCAR 5508093 is a CCMT432SM-geometry turning insert in the Isoturn series, manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating. The 80-degree diamond shape with a 7-degree relief angle and positive rake geometry makes this insert well-suited for general-purpose external turning operations. The IC8250 grade provides a balanced combination of wear resistance and toughness for use on steel and stainless workpiece materials. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the corner radius is 0.0315 inches (1/32 inch), and the insert length is 12.90 mm (0.5079 inches). It is held in the toolholder via a screw clamp (Clearance Code C, Tolerance Code M).
This insert is intended for CNC and manual lathe turning applications in production and job-shop environments. The SM chip breaker geometry targets medium cutting conditions on steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) workpieces. It is used by machinists and tooling specialists in metalworking operations requiring a reliable, repeatable CVD-coated carbide insert. The maximum depth of cut is 3.50 mm (0.1378 inches). These inserts comply with ISO 13399 tooling data standards, making them compatible with digital tooling management systems.
Designed for use in CCMT432-style screw-clamp turning toolholders. The CCMT insert style, 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and standard hole diameter of 0.2165 inches (5.50 mm) conform to industry-standard CCMT432 toolholder pocket specifications. Verify toolholder pocket style and clamp compatibility before installation.
Turning insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped, spindle locked, and all power isolated per shop safety procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp screw to seat the insert firmly in the pocket without overtightening. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear, chips, or contamination before seating a new insert. Dispose of used carbide inserts according to local regulations for carbide and metallic waste.
