The ISCAR 5508087 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Isoturn series, this insert carries the IC8250 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating for elevated wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The diamond-shaped body features an 80-degree included angle, a 7-degree relief angle, and a positive rake geometry. The SM chip breaker promotes reliable chip control across a range of feed rates and depths. Installed by machinists and CNC operators, this insert is a direct screw-lock type held securely in compatible CCMT toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning applications on steel and stainless steel workpieces, with rated primary workpiece material codes of P and M per ISO classification. The SM chip breaker geometry handles light to moderate depths of cut effectively. Maximum depth of cut is 2.00 mm (0.0790 inches). Typical use is in production turning environments where consistent surface finish and tool life are critical. The insert meets ISO 13399 standards, making tool assembly data compatible with CAM and tool management systems used in modern machine shops.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-lock turning toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with toolholders designated for CCMT 21.50.5 inserts per ISO coding. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and screw size before installation.
Turning insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered off and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert body. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating the new insert. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of edge wear to prevent workpiece damage and tool failure.
