The ISCAR 5507992 is a solid carbide turning insert in the Heliturn LD series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TiAlN and TiN PVD coating applied over a submicron carbide substrate under manufacturer grade IC807, providing wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 6.5 mm (0.2559 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch (0.3748 inches) inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch (0.0315 inches) corner radius. The HTW chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation during moderate to heavy turning passes.
This insert is suited for turning operations in shop environments handling materials across ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It fits clamp and pin style toolholders that accept the WNMX insert style with an 80-degree trigon shape and N clearance code. Maximum depth of cut is 4.0 mm (0.1575 inches). Machinists and CNC operators performing finishing to semi-finishing passes on precision components will find the positive rake geometry and wiper edge useful for achieving tighter surface finish tolerances.
Designed for use in WNMX-style clamp and pin toolholders accepting an 80-degree trigon insert with N clearance code, M tolerance code, and insert size code 342. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S per ISO 13399. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or replacing the insert. Clean the insert pocket of chips and debris before installing the new insert to ensure proper seating. Follow toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping guidelines for the specific clamp or pin style being used.
