The ISCAR 5507973 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the ICP series, designed to replace worn or damaged drill tips on compatible ICP-style drill bodies. Grade IC908, manufactured from submicron carbide and coated with TiAlN via PVD process, this insert delivers sharp, consistent cutting performance in demanding metal-removal applications. The 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point reduces thrust and improves centering. Cutting diameter is 0.65 inches with a functional length of 0.267 inches and an overall height of 0.366 inches. Two slow-spiral flutes and a honed cutting edge geometry support stable chip evacuation in short-hole drilling operations.
This tip insert is engineered primarily for drilling steel and is rated for secondary use in stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. It is suited for production environments running CNC machining centers or drill presses where replaceable-tip tooling reduces downtime compared to solid drill replacement. The slow-spiral flute profile is particularly effective in gummy or tough materials where chip control is critical. ISO number ICP 165 and ISO 13399 standards compliance allow integration with tool management and presetting systems. Coolant-through is not supported on this insert.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for ICP-series drill bodies with insert seat size 16, conforming to ISO number ICP 165. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (primary), stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials.
Installation and replacement of carbide tip inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before removing or seating the insert. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque and seating guidelines for the ICP insert interface. Inspect the insert seat on the drill body for damage or debris before installing a new tip to ensure proper seating and runout.
