The ISCAR 5507879 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert in the SOMX style, designed for use in ISCAR DR-TWIST indexable drill bodies. Carrying the IC808 manufacturer grade with a PVD coating process, this insert is built for consistent performance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The square shape and 90-degree included angle deliver stable cutting geometry, while the DT chipbreaker controls chip flow during deep-hole drilling operations. The inscribed circle measures 0.2126 inches, thickness is 0.0945 inches, and the corner radius is 0.40 mm (0.0157 inches). Installation is handled by licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for universal material applications, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range makes it applicable across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys in both light and heavy cutting conditions. The IC808 grade with PVD coating targets the P15-P30 material grade range, making it particularly effective in general-purpose and interrupted steel cutting at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. It is a standard fit for ISCAR DR-TWIST series drill bodies using the 05 insert size designation.
Designed for use in ISCAR DR-TWIST series indexable drill bodies that accept the SOMX insert style with insert size code 05 (050204). Confirmed compatible with insert size 050204 toolholders per ISO 13399 designation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the drill body manufacturer torque and seating guidelines for the specific holder. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for damage or debris before seating a new insert. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as failure under cutting load presents a serious safety hazard.
