The ISCAR 5507846 is a solid carbide turning insert in WNMG433NR geometry, grade IC8150, from the Isoturn series. It features a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating for wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous turning operations. The insert measures 8.70 mm (0.3425 inches) in length with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a 3/64-inch (0.0469-inch) corner radius. The 80-degree trigon shape with a neutral relief angle (N clearance code) suits a wide range of external turning applications. Installed by CNC machinists and turning specialists, this insert seats via clamp and pin holding methods and conforms to ISO 13399 standards for tool data representation.
This insert is designed for turning steel (ISO P) as its primary workpiece material, with cast iron (ISO K) as the secondary workpiece material. The NR chip breaker geometry is suited to finishing and medium turning passes at controlled depths. Maximum depth of cut is 5.00 mm (0.1970 inches). Typical applications include external longitudinal turning and facing on CNC lathes in job shop and production environments. The IC8150 grade with CVD coating performs well on ferrous workpieces where consistent surface finish and edge life are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit turning insert for tool holders accepting WNMG style inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, M tolerance, N clearance, and clamp-and-pin holding. Compatible with ISO P (steel) and ISO K (cast iron) workpiece materials per the IC8150 grade specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before installation, as debris under the insert can cause premature edge failure or inconsistent cutting geometry. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque procedures and verify insert seating before resuming cuts.
