The ISCAR 5507684 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VCGT style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Carrying ISCAR grade IC20 in an uncoated finish, this insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V code) with a positive rake geometry and a C clearance angle of 7 degrees. The corner radius is 0.004 inches and the inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.3748 inches). It belongs to the Isoturn series and is screw-held, making it suitable for moderate to light finishing cuts on a range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and stainless steel.
This insert is intended for finishing and semi-finishing applications in turning centers and manual lathes. Its positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, making it a practical choice for thin-wall parts and close-tolerance work. The AS chip breaker designation supports controlled chip formation during light cuts. Primary workpiece material classifications include ISO K, M, and N materials, covering cast iron, stainless, and non-ferrous alloys. Maximum depth of cut is 2.50 mm (0.0984 inches). This insert is installed and changed by machinists and CNC operators as part of standard tooling maintenance.
Designed for use in ISCAR Isoturn toolholders that accept VCGT-style screw-held inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Compatible with workpiece materials classified as ISO K, M, and N, including cast iron, stainless steel, and non-ferrous alloys.
Installation is performed by machinists using the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat and secure the screw-clamp mechanism on the toolholder. Power down the machine spindle and confirm the turret is in a safe position before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and toolholder guidelines for proper screw torque and insert orientation.
