The ISCAR 5507338 is a CNMX-style solid carbide turning insert in the Heliturn LD series, designed for high-performance single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC9150 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for extended tool life in abrasive cutting environments. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry with a positive rake angle, while the HTW chip breaker promotes reliable chip control. Insert length is 12.9 mm (0.5079 inches) with an inscribed circle of 0.5000 inches and a corner radius of 0.0315 inches (1/32 inches). It also features a wiper edge for improved surface finish.
This insert is suited for turning cast iron and steel workpieces (ISO material codes K and P), covering a broad range of production and job-shop turning applications. It is compatible with clamp and pin insert-holding methods and is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes where chip control and coating durability are priorities. The maximum depth of cut is 6.00 mm (0.2362 inches), making it well matched to medium material removal rates in ferrous machining. Qualified machinists and CNC operators in metalworking and industrial manufacturing facilities are the primary users.
Designed for use in CNMX-style insert seats compatible with clamp and pin holding, within the ISCAR Heliturn LD toolholder series. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (ISO K) and steel (ISO P). Material grades C3, C4, C6, C7, and C8 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or pin to avoid movement under cutting loads. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris that could affect seating accuracy prior to each insert change.
