The ISCAR 5507321 is a CNMG 431-PP indexable turning insert from the Isoturn series, manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer coating. The 80-degree diamond shape (C-style) provides a strong, rigid cutting geometry suited to interrupted and continuous turning operations. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1875-inch insert thickness, and a 1/64-inch (0.0157-inch) corner radius, this insert is built for general turning where edge stability and coating wear resistance are the primary performance requirements. The IC9250 grade targets medium to finishing cuts on stainless steel and carbon steel. A licensed machinist or CNC turning specialist installs and indexes this insert.
This insert is intended for turning centers and engine lathes running ISO-designated workpiece material groups M (stainless steel) and P (carbon and alloy steel). The PP chip breaker geometry produces a positive rake angle suited to lighter depths of cut and finishing passes where chip control on gummy or work-hardening materials is critical. Maximum depth of cut is 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches). The Isoturn series is a standard ISCAR product family for external and internal turning applications in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in CNMG-style insert pockets accepting a 431 insert size with clamp or pin holding. Fits toolholders conforming to ISO CNMG insert geometry with clearance code N and tolerance code M. Suitable for external and internal turning operations on stainless steel and carbon or alloy steel workpieces.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine spindle stopped and all motion fully locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert edge condition at each tool change and do not run a visibly worn or chipped edge.
