The ISCAR 5507275 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It belongs to the Isoturn series and is manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN — the IC9250 grade. This coating stack provides wear resistance, thermal barrier properties, and surface lubricity suited for continuous and semi-interrupted cutting. The insert measures 9.70 mm in length with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 5/32 inch thickness, and a 1/64 inch corner radius. It uses a screw-clamping holding method and carries a positive rake geometry with a 7-degree relief angle. The SM chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip evacuation in ferrous materials.
This insert is intended for machining stainless steel and carbon and alloy steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups M and P. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling passes on production equipment in job shops, aerospace component manufacturing, and general metalworking environments. The 80-degree diamond insert shape (shape code C) provides two usable cutting edges per insert. Maximum depth of cut is 2.50 mm (0.0984 inches), making this geometry well suited for medium to finishing-range passes where edge stability and surface finish are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this consumable tooling insert.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for CCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, 5/32 inch thick, 80-degree diamond insert with a 0.1732 inch (4.40 mm) hole diameter. Verify toolholder insert pocket geometry before installation.
Indexable turning inserts are installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque screwdriver specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw — overtightening can crack the insert seat or the insert itself. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert.
