The ISCAR 5507274 is a VNMG-style solid carbide turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for precision metal-turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries a three-layer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN under the IC9250 manufacturer grade, which provides wear resistance, thermal shielding, and surface lubricity in a single insert. The insert measures 12.40 mm (0.4882 inches) in length with a 9/32-inch (0.2815-inch) inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch (0.0315-inch) corner radius. The 35-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code V), positive rake geometry, and NF chip breaker designation make it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where chip control and surface finish quality are critical.
This insert is intended for machining stainless steel and carbon and alloy steels, corresponding to ISO material codes M and P. It is held in place by a clamp and pin method, making it compatible with standard VNMG toolholders used in production turning cells, job shops, and maintenance machining environments. The maximum depth of cut is 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches), placing it in a finishing-to-light-roughing application range. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in industrial manufacturing and precision component production are the primary users.
Designed for use in standard VNMG insert toolholders with a clamp and pin clamping system. Fits the ISCAR Isoturn series. Material grade compatibility listed as C5, C6, and C7, covering ISO P and M workpiece material groups including carbon steels, alloy steels, and stainless steels.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped before touching the toolholder. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping components for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination in the pocket affects runout and insert life. Use the correct torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when tightening the clamp screw. Dispose of worn carbide inserts in accordance with applicable facility and local regulations for carbide and coated tooling materials.
