The ISCAR 5507225 is a TNMG331TF IC9150 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN that provides wear resistance, thermal protection, and a hard outer surface suited for continuous and interrupted cuts. The triangular insert shape carries a 60-degree included angle with a positive rake geometry and a neutral clearance angle (N). The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.3748 inches) and the insert length is 0.6496 inches (16.50 mm). A corner radius of 1/64 inches (0.0157 inches) supports fine-finish and medium-duty turning applications. The IC9150 grade is engineered for high cutting speeds on ferrous materials with extended tool life.
This insert is used in the ISCAR Isoturn series and is suited for turning cast iron and steel workpieces in both light-finish and medium-material-removal scenarios. It is clamped and pin-held in compatible Isoturn toolholders. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling operations in general machining, automotive component production, and job shop environments. The TF chip breaker geometry promotes efficient chip control at moderate to high feed rates. Maximum depth of cut is 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches). This insert is specified by machinists and tooling engineers and is installed by CNC machine operators or setup technicians.
Designed for use in ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders that accept TNMG style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (ISO material code K) and steel (ISO material code P). Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
Installation is performed by a CNC machine operator or qualified setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque driver for the clamp screw to ensure the insert seats fully against the pocket without rocking. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or damage before seating a new insert, as debris under the insert will affect tool life and surface finish.
