The ISCAR 5507222 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert engineered for precision metal removal in CNC and manual lathe applications. It features a solid carbide substrate with a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN — a combination that delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of cutting conditions. The insert carries grade IC9150, an ISCAR Isoturn series designation suited for medium to finishing cuts. The 80-degree diamond shape (insert shape code C) provides a strong nose geometry with a 1/32-inch corner radius and a positive rake for reduced cutting forces. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for turning cast iron and steel workpieces, covering ISO material codes K and P. The SM chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation during medium finishing passes. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.1181 inches (3.00 mm) and a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, it fits standard CCMT toolholders used in both light production and precision finishing operations. Typical applications include turning bearing surfaces, shafts, housings, and other ferrous components where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for CCMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 5/32-inch insert thickness, and 0.1732-inch hole diameter, as specified by ISCAR Isoturn series tooling.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable LOTO procedures. Seat the insert fully into the pocket before tightening the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method. Inspect the pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before each insert change. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert geometry, as overloading the cutting edge can cause insert fracture.
