The ISCAR 5506724 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for high-productivity hole-making in demanding materials. Manufactured to the IC908 grade using a submicron carbide substrate and applied with a PVD TiAlN coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and edge stability in interrupted and continuous cuts. The cutting diameter is 1.0630 inches, the insert seat size is 27mm, and the functional length is 0.454 inches. It features a 140-degree drill point angle, a slow spiral flute configuration, and a thinned web point for reduced thrust force and improved chip evacuation. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians as a replacement tip in compatible ICM-series drill bodies.
This replaceable tip is engineered for drilling operations in stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as its primary target materials. It also performs in steel, cast iron, and hard materials as secondary workpiece applications. The ICM series insert format makes it well suited for production environments where tip replacement without full drill body replacement reduces downtime and tooling cost. The T-Land style cutting geometry supports controlled chip formation in tough, work-hardening alloys common in aerospace, energy, and medical manufacturing applications.
Designed for use in ISCAR ICM-series replaceable tip drill bodies with a 27mm insert seat, ISO number ICM 270. Verify body seat size and series designation before installation.
Replaceable tip drill inserts are seated and secured by twist-lock engagement into the drill body shank — power down the machine and lock out energy sources before handling tooling. Use the torque wrench or key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the tip; do not use makeshift tools that could damage the seating geometry. Inspect the insert pocket and coolant ports on the body for chips or debris before installing a new tip. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine tool manufacturer guidelines for high-speed drilling operations.
