The ISCAR 5506720 is an ICM1020 series carbide replaceable tip drill designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials including stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The tip is manufactured from submicron solid carbide with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, providing high heat resistance and wear life in difficult-to-machine workpieces. The drill features a 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point geometry and slow spiral fluting. At 1.02 inches cutting diameter and 0.413 inches functional length, this tool is suited for machinists and toolroom professionals working on CNC drilling applications where insert replacement is preferred over full-tool replacement.
The ICM1020 fits into the ICM series replaceable tip drill system, targeting production and job shop environments where consistent hole quality is required in ISO material groups M, S, and to a secondary extent P, K, and H. Typical applications include drilling stainless steel, titanium, and superalloy components in aerospace, energy, and precision manufacturing. The T-Land style insert geometry and 2-flute spiral configuration support chip control in these tough materials. Secondary workpiece suitability includes carbon and alloy steel, cast iron, and hard materials.
Designed for use in the ISCAR ICM replaceable tip drill body system, insert seat size 25, ISO number ICM 259. Compatible with ISO material groups M (stainless steel, superalloys), S (titanium, superalloys), P (steel), K (cast iron), and H (hard materials).
Replaceable carbide tip installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the tool body manufacturer guidelines for seating and torque. Ensure the drill body insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the tip. Always confirm spindle is fully stopped and machine is in a safe state before changing inserts. Refer to ISCAR ICM system documentation for body selection and runout verification procedure.
