The ISCAR 5506712 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the ICM series, designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials including stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The drill features an IC908 submicron solid carbide tip with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for extended wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. The 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point geometry reduces entry force and improves centering. With a cutting diameter of 0.9060 inches (29/32 inch) and a two-flute slow spiral configuration, this tool is suited for controlled chip evacuation in tough alloys. It is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production drilling applications.
This replaceable tip drill is applied in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses where repeatable hole diameter accuracy is required in stainless steel, titanium, superalloys, and secondary materials including steel, cast iron, and hard materials. The ICM series platform uses a twist-style insert holding method, allowing tip replacement without removing the drill body from the spindle. The T-Land style insert geometry supports stable cutting edges under interrupted and continuous cutting conditions. Typical applications include aerospace component drilling, structural fabrication, and precision production runs where tip replacement reduces tooling downtime.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 23 (ISO Number ICM 230). Compatible primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S). Compatible secondary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO codes P, K, and H).
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist following the drill body manufacturer torque and seating procedures for ICM series tips. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine power is locked out before handling or replacing the tip. The twist-lock holding method requires proper seating confirmation before resuming cutting operations. Verify coolant compatibility with your machining setup, as this tip does not include through-coolant capability.
