The ISCAR 5506670 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert from the ICP series, designed for high-accuracy drilling operations in demanding metalworking environments. Manufactured under the IC908 grade with a submicron carbide substrate, this tip carries a PVD-applied TiAlN finish that resists heat and extends edge life under continuous cutting conditions. The insert measures 1.102 inches (27.99 mm) in cutting diameter with a functional length of 0.471 inches and a height of 0.638 inches (16.21 mm). It features a 140-degree included angle, a slow spiral flute design, and a web-thinned point to reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation. Intended for installation by machinists and toolroom professionals, this tip replaces and seats into compatible ICP-series drill bodies.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling primary workpiece materials classified as steel (ISO P) and extends effective performance to stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), super-alloys and titanium (ISO S), and hard materials (ISO H). Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in production machining, job shop, and heavy manufacturing environments where tool change speed and consistent hole quality are priorities. The ICP series tip design enables fast tip swaps without removing the drill body from the machine, reducing changeover time on CNC machining centers and drill presses.
Designed as a replaceable tip for ISCAR ICP-series drill bodies with an insert seat size of 28, conforming to ISO number ICP 280. Verify body compatibility against ISCAR ICP series specifications before ordering.
Installation is performed by machinists using the appropriate ISCAR torque key or wrench specified for ICP-series tip seats. Always ensure the drill body is removed from the spindle or the machine is fully powered down and locked out before replacing the tip. Clean the insert seat and mating surfaces before seating the new tip to ensure accurate runout and prevent premature wear. Do not overtighten or use substitute tooling to drive the clamping screw, as this can damage the seat or fracture the carbide tip.
