The ISCAR 5506658 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for precision hole-making in metalworking applications. Built to ICP series specifications, this insert features a solid carbide construction with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed drilling. The cutting diameter measures 0.945 inches, the included point angle is 140 degrees, and the insert height is 0.551 inches. The honed cutting edge geometry and slow spiral flute design help control chip flow and reduce cutting forces. This part is installed by machinist professionals and toolroom technicians working on CNC drilling operations.
This replaceable tip drill insert is suited for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material. It also performs in stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The ICP series replaceable tip system allows fast insert changes without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing downtime in production environments. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in both job shop and high-volume manufacturing settings. The insert seat size is 24mm and corresponds to ICP 240 ISO toolholder bodies.
Designed for use with ICP series toolholder bodies accepting an insert seat size of 24mm, corresponding to ISO designation ICP 240. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) per ISO workpiece material classification.
Installation and replacement of carbide tip inserts should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per standard lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct ISCAR torque key or insert driver to seat the tip securely in the holder body before running. Inspect the insert seat and mating surfaces for chips or debris before each installation. Do not run a damaged or improperly seated insert, as this can cause tool breakage or workpiece damage.
