The ISCAR 5506650 is a carbide replaceable tip drill from the ICP series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking applications. The insert tip carries the IC908 manufacturer grade, a submicron solid carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that improves wear resistance and heat tolerance at the cutting edge. The drill features a 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point and a honed cutting edge geometry, reducing thrust forces and improving centering accuracy. At 0.846 inches cutting diameter with a functional length of 0.351 inches, this tip is paired with a compatible ICP shank body. Installation and use require machining center or CNC lathe setup by a qualified machinist.
The ICP0846 tip is intended for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary capability across stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The two-flute slow spiral design and P-geometry insert are suited to consistent chip evacuation in through and blind-hole drilling on machining centers where replaceable-tip tooling reduces setup changeover time compared to solid drill replacement. The IC908 grade and TiAlN finish extend tool life in production environments running ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys.
Designed for use with compatible ICP series replaceable-tip drill bodies accepting an insert seat size 21. Confirm shank body compatibility with the ICP series and seat size before ordering.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per facility safety procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified key for the twist-lock insert holding method to secure the tip properly. Verify runout and seating after installation before initiating a cutting cycle. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine tool manufacturer guidelines for replaceable-tip tooling systems.
