The ISCAR 5506638 is a replaceable drill tip engineered for precision drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Part of the ICP series, this solid carbide tip features a 0.4920-inch cutting diameter and a 140-degree included drill point angle with a thinned point geometry. The grade IC908 submicron carbide substrate is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, delivering excellent wear resistance and heat stability during high-speed drilling. The honed cutting edge and slow spiral flute design work together to maintain stable chip flow and edge integrity across a wide range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers of this consumable tip.
This drill tip is designed for use in drilling operations on steel as its primary workpiece material. Secondary material compatibility includes stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The ICP series insert seat size 12 locates the tip in compatible ISCAR ICP-style drill bodies. Web thinned geometry reduces thrust load at entry. With 2 spiral flutes and a twist-type insert holding method, this tip suits both production drilling and maintenance machining environments where repeatable hole quality is required.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICP-series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 12. Compatible workpiece material groups per ISO classification: P (Steel), M (Stainless Steel), K (Cast Iron), S (Super-alloys and Titanium), and H (Hard Materials).
Installation and replacement of this drill tip should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or clamping key specified for the ICP drill body to seat and secure the tip correctly. Do not overtighten or use substitute fasteners, as improper seating affects runout and tip retention. Verify tip orientation and engagement in the insert seat before resuming operation.
