The ISCAR 5506275 is a CCMT431SM IC907 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. The insert carries a PVD-applied TiN and TiAlN dual coating over a submicron carbide substrate, giving it high wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry with a positive rake and positive side clearance. With an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches, an insert length of 0.508 inches, and a corner radius of 0.016 inches, this insert is sized for the 431 ANSI seat class. It is held in the toolholder by a screw-clamp method and meets ISO 13399 standards.
The SM chip breaker geometry is rated for finishing and medium machining operations. Grade IC907 is suited for steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N and S ISO material codes), making it a versatile choice for job shops and production turning cells. Typical applications include external and internal turning passes where consistent surface finish and predictable tool life are required. The ISO insert code is CCMT 120404, and the part is catalogued under the Isoturn series.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct application insert for CCMT431 (ANSI) or CCMT 120404 (ISO) toolholder pockets within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Confirm pocket geometry, clearance angle, and chip breaker designation against your toolholder specification before ordering.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the clamping screw and do not overtighten, as over-torquing can fracture the insert or damage the pocket seat. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before fitting a new insert.
