The ISCAR 5506186 is a solid carbide turning insert with LNMX geometry, designed for use in the Heliturn series of indexable turning toolholders. The insert carries an IC908 manufacturer grade and features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating for high-temperature resistance and extended tool life in demanding turning applications. It is configured for left-hand cutting with a rectangular insert shape, a 90-degree included angle, and a 1/16 inch corner radius. The 0 degree relief angle and positive rake geometry make it well suited for controlled material removal on a variety of workpiece materials. Machinists and tooling professionals in production and job-shop environments install and index these inserts as part of routine insert maintenance on compatible Heliturn toolholders.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened materials, cast iron, stainless and high-temp alloys, steel, and superalloys. The maximum depth of cut is 8.00 mm (0.3150 inches), making it appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes depending on feed and speed parameters. The HT chip breaker geometry is built into the insert to manage chip flow and reduce heat buildup at the cutting edge. This insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units per order.
Designed for use in ISCAR Heliturn series indexable turning toolholders accepting LNMX-style inserts with insert size code 150616. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and hand orientation before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification found in the toolholder documentation. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw threads for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Never force an insert into a damaged or contaminated pocket, as this can cause premature edge failure or toolholder damage.
