The ISCAR 5505850 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNGG 430.5-PP IC907 designation, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries a dual-layer TiAlN and TiN coating applied via PVD process, which supports thermal stability and edge hardness during interrupted and continuous cuts. The 80-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code C) provides a strong cutting geometry with a positive rake angle and a 0-degree relief angle (Clearance Code N). The corner radius measures 0.0079 inches, making it suited for finishing and light semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances are required.
This insert belongs to ISCAR's Isoturn series and is intended for use in production turning environments handled by machinists and CNC operators in aerospace, general machining, and metal fabrication shops. The IC907 grade and PP chip breaker combination targets workpiece materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S under ISO classifications, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, carbon steels, and superalloys. It is clamped and pin-held in compatible toolholders, consistent with ISO 13399 standards for indexable insert tooling.
Designed for use in CNGG-style ISO-compatible turning toolholders that accept 1/2-inch inscribed circle inserts with clamp and pin holding. Suitable for primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as defined by ISO classification, covering a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and superalloys.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert to prevent micro-fracture at the cutting edge. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and pin-retention specifications for the CNGG seat style.
