The ISCAR 5505573 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPGX 220-L configuration, part of the Isoturn series. It features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, an 11-degree relief angle, and a left-hand cutting orientation. The insert is PVD-coated with TiN and TiAlN layers using the IC908 submicron carbide grade, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during turning operations. With a 0.008 inch corner radius and a 0.250 inch inscribed circle diameter, it is suited for precision turning work. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is designed for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes H, K, M, P, and S, which correspond to hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys. It fits screw-clamped toolholders compatible with the TPGX insert style and is applicable in both light and moderate turning passes with a maximum depth of cut of 0.098 inch (2.49 mm). The Isoturn series is commonly used in CNC lathe applications requiring consistent chip control, and the L chipbreaker geometry supports that function across a broad range of material types.
Designed for use in screw-clamped TPGX-style toolholders within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Compatible with workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S per ISO material classification. Conforms to ISO 13399 standards.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or insert clamping screw driver to seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket without overtightening the clamping screw, as this can damage the insert or pocket seat. Verify insert orientation for left-hand cutting direction before resuming operation.
