The ISCAR 5505521 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SCMT style, designed for single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Grade IC907 with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual-layer coating delivers wear resistance and edge stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 90-degree square shape with a positive rake geometry and a 0.80 mm (0.0315 inch) corner radius. The 0.5-inch (12.70 mm) inscribed circle and 0.1874-inch insert thickness place this in the 432 size class, making it a standard fit for SCMT-compatible toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of routine tooling changeouts.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and is rated for universal primary workpiece material applications, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. That range includes cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, carbon steel, heat-resistant superalloys, and general steels. It suits high-production turning environments where consistent tool life and reliable chip control across varied materials are priorities. The chip breaker designation is 19. Maximum depth of cut is 8.00 mm (0.315 inch), making it appropriate for medium stock removal passes.
Designed for use in SCMT-style turning toolholders with a 432 insert size designation. Compatible with ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders and other SCMT-compatible holders with a 0.217-inch (5.50 mm) hole diameter. Consult the ISCAR Isoturn toolholder catalog to confirm holder compatibility before ordering.
Insert replacement is performed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware to seat the insert securely in the pocket. Do not use damaged or out-of-spec toolholders, as improper seating affects cutting performance and creates a safety hazard.
