The ISCAR 5505180 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the IDI-SG series, designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metal-cutting applications. The tip carries an IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering hardness and heat resistance suited for interrupted cuts and continuous production drilling. The cutting diameter measures 0.984 inches (63/64 inch), with a 140-degree included drill point angle and a web-thinned point geometry for reduced entry force and improved chip evacuation. Functional length is 0.254 inches. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical contractors as well as machining professionals will recognize this as a precision indexable insert, not a full drill body.
The 5505180 tip is engineered for use in the IDI-SG series replaceable tip drill system, where the carbide insert threads or locks into a compatible steel shank body. It is suited for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The slow spiral flute geometry and SG insert geometry support stable chip flow in these tougher workpiece materials. This is a general-purpose drilling insert appropriate for CNC machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, and manual setups requiring an indexable drill solution. Package quantity is one insert per unit.
Designed for use with IDI-SG series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 25. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), superalloys and titanium (ISO S), and hard materials (ISO H). ISO number reference: IDI 250-SG.
Installation of replaceable tip drill inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully de-energized and the machine in a safe, locked-out state. The insert seats into the IDI-SG shank body using the twist-lock holding method; follow the drill body manufacturer torque and seating procedure for the specific shank. Inspect the insert seat and coolant ports on the body for chips or debris before seating a new tip. Do not attempt to re-sharpen or re-coat this insert.
