The ISCAR 5505153 is a WNMG-style trigon turning insert designed for precision lathe and turning center applications. Manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials. The IC907 manufacturer grade is optimized for interrupted and continuous cuts on difficult-to-machine alloys. Key dimensions include a 3/8 inch (0.3748 inch decimal) inscribed circle, a 1/32 inch (0.0315 inch decimal) corner radius, and an insert thickness of 5/32 inch (0.1560 inch decimal). The TF chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action, helping control chip flow and reduce cutting forces during turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for turning operations on workpiece materials classified under ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, which correspond to hardened steels, cast irons, stainless and alloy steels, non-ferrous materials, carbon steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It fits into the Isoturn series toolholders that accept WNMG insert geometry secured by clamp and pin holding methods. The maximum depth of cut is 0.1180 inch, making it appropriate for medium to light finishing and semi-finishing passes on turning centers and manual lathes.

Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and locating pin for wear or debris before seating a new insert, as a damaged pocket will affect insert positioning and surface finish. Dispose of worn carbide inserts in accordance with local regulations for carbide and coated cutting tool materials.
