The ISCAR 5505148 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill in the IDI-SG series, designed for high-performance hole making in demanding machining environments. The tip features a 140-degree included angle with a standard point type and helical flutes in a regular spiral configuration. A PVD-applied TiAlN coating provides thermal and wear resistance at the cutting edge. The IC908 submicron carbide grade delivers edge toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The tip is held in place by a clamp-style insert seat sized for the 18mm series and is web thinned to reduce entry thrust forces. This is a replacement tip only, intended for use in compatible IDI-SG drill bodies by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC and manual machining operations.
This replaceable tip drill is suited for hole making and drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The ISO material codes covered are P, M, K, S, and H, making this tip a versatile option across job shop and production environments. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling where consistent diameter and point geometry are required. The IDI-SG series is engineered for controlled chip evacuation through its helical flute design. Coolant-through capability is not included in this configuration.
Designed as a replacement tip for IDI-SG series drill bodies with an 18mm insert seat size. ISO number IDI 183-SG. Compatible with workpiece materials designated ISO P, M, K, S, and H including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians. The drill body must be removed from the spindle and fully de-energized before replacing the tip. Use the appropriate clamp tightening tool specified for the IDI-SG seat to avoid tip misalignment or seat damage. Do not force the tip into the seat; proper seating is confirmed by flush contact with no rocking.
