The ISCAR 5505048 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for use in IDI-SG series drill bodies. It carries the IC908 manufacturer grade, a submicron carbide substrate applied through a PVD coating process with a TiAlN finish. The cutting diameter is 0.579 inches with a 140-degree included drill point angle and a slow spiral, two-flute geometry. The tip features a thinned web point for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust at entry. Licensed HVAC and metalworking professionals and machining technicians handling precision drilling applications will find this insert suited to high-demand production environments.
This replaceable tip drill insert is rated for use across a broad range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The SG insert geometry and IC908 grade make it appropriate for general-purpose drilling operations in both ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It seats in IDI-SG series holder bodies using a twist-style insert holding method. Functional length is 0.162 inches and overall projection height is 0.268 inches. The part conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation.
Designed for use with ISCAR IDI-SG series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 14. ISO designation IDI 147-SG. Compatible with workpiece materials coded P, M, K, S, and H per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by machining technicians using the twist-lock seating method specific to IDI-SG series drill bodies. Ensure the drill body and spindle are fully de-energized and the machine is locked out before replacing the insert. Inspect the insert seat for debris or damage before seating the new tip. This insert does not support coolant-through delivery, so external or flood coolant should be used where chip heat is a concern.
