The ISCAR 5505038 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert from the IDI-SG series, designed for high-performance drilling in demanding production environments. Built with a solid carbide tip in manufacturer grade IC908 and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. The cutting diameter is 0.52 inches, the included angle is 140 degrees, and the functional length is 0.142 inches. The SG insert geometry features a web-thinned point for reduced thrust and improved chip evacuation. Installation and replacement are handled by licensed machinists and tooling technicians as part of a modular drill body system.
The 5505038 insert is suited for drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The slow spiral flute design and general-purpose style make it applicable in CNC machining centers and turning centers where consistent hole quality and tool life are priorities. The web-thinned point reduces entry force, which is particularly useful when drilling into tough or work-hardening materials. This insert is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 2.
Designed for use with ISCAR IDI-SG series modular drill bodies requiring insert seat size 13. ISO number reference is IDI 132-SG. Verify seat size and series designation on the drill body before ordering.
Installation of replaceable tip drill inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist following the drill body manufacturer's torque and seating procedures. Ensure the drill body and insert seat are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before any insert change. Do not force the insert into the seat; confirm the twist-lock engagement is fully seated before resuming cutting operations.
