The ISCAR 5505021 is a CNMG 433-TF indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and PVD-coated with TiAlN and TiN layers under the IC907 grade designation. It belongs to ISCAR's Isoturn series and is designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (C code), a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 3/64-inch corner radius, and a TF chip breaker geometry. With a positive rake and neutral clearance angle, it delivers controlled chip formation across a range of workpiece materials. CNC machinists and tooling technicians install this insert in compatible CNMG-style toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning operations on hard-to-machine materials including hardened steels (H), stainless and heat-resistant alloys (M and S), as well as cast irons, non-ferrous materials, and steel (K, N, and P material codes). The IC907 PVD-coated grade performs well in interrupted cuts and finishing-to-semi-finishing passes where edge toughness and wear resistance are both required. The Isoturn series targets precision turning applications in aerospace, energy, and general machining environments where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical.
Designed for use in CNMG 433-style indexable turning toolholders that accept clamp-and-pin style insert retention. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to ISO 13399 specifications. Applicable to workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO material classification. Material grades C7 and C8 apply.
This insert is installed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians familiar with indexable carbide tooling. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque screwdriver or clamping tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamp screw. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or wear before installing a new insert to ensure proper edge engagement and dimensional accuracy.
