Product Description

The ISCAR 5505007 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the IDI-SG series, designed for high-productivity drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 0.563-inch cutting diameter and an IC908 submicron carbide grade tip with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. The 140-degree included point angle and web-thinned point geometry reduce entry forces and improve centering accuracy. The slow spiral flute design and SG insert geometry work together to control chip flow and maintain stability through the cut. This drill is used by machinists and tooling professionals in production environments where replaceable-tip tooling reduces downtime versus brazed or solid designs.

The 5505007 is built for general-purpose drilling across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. These correspond to ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. The 2-flute spiral configuration and web-thinned point make it well suited to both through-hole and blind-hole operations in these material families. The replaceable tip format is common in CNC machining centers and turning centers where quick tip changes without removing the holder body improve machine uptime. The IDI-SG series uses a twist-style insert holding method for secure tip retention under cutting loads.

Key Features

  • IC908 submicron carbide grade with PVD TiAlN coating for wear resistance in ferrous and hard materials
  • 140-degree included drill point angle with web-thinned point reduces thrust force and improves self-centering
  • Slow spiral, 2-flute configuration promotes controlled chip evacuation in gummy and interrupted materials
  • SG insert geometry with twist-style holding method provides rigid, repeatable tip seating
  • Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards for compatibility with digital tool management systems
  • Replaceable tip design minimizes tooling cost per hole and reduces changeover time

Compatibility

Designed for use in IDI-SG series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting a size 14 insert seat. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO groups P, M, K, S, H). ISO number reference: IDI 143-SG.

Installation Notes

Installation and tip changes should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel with the machine fully stopped and locked out. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified for the IDI-SG holder body to seat the tip to the manufacturer-specified engagement. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating a new tip, as contamination will affect runout and tool life. Do not exceed the cutting parameters published in the ISCAR IDI-SG series application guide for the specific workpiece material.
