The ISCAR 5505006 is the IDI0516SG replaceable tip drill insert from the IDI-SG series, manufactured in IC908 grade solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN finish. It is designed to seat into compatible IDI-SG drill bodies and deliver consistent, repeatable hole quality without requiring full tool replacement. The insert features a 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point and slow spiral fluting, producing clean entry geometry on a range of workpiece materials. Cutting diameter is 0.516 inches (33/64 inch). This insert is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments running CNC or manual drilling operations.
The IDI0516SG insert is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The slow spiral geometry and TiAlN coating support controlled chip evacuation and thermal resistance in these demanding materials. Its general-purpose style makes it a practical choice for shops working across multiple workpiece materials without switching insert grades. The insert seat size is 13, compatible with IDI-SG series drill bodies of the corresponding seat designation. ISO number for this insert is IDI 131-SG.
Designed for use with ISCAR IDI-SG series replaceable-tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 13. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO codes P, M, K, S, H). Verify seat size and series designation on the drill body before installation.
Replaceable tip drill inserts should be installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following the machine tool manufacturer and ISCAR tooling guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before seating or removing the insert. Use the recommended torx or insert-locking tool specified for the IDI-SG body to achieve proper clamping without over-torquing the seat. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before each insert change.
