The ISCAR 5505001 is an S-style shim designed for indexable turning toolholders. Shims seat behind the cutting insert in the toolholder pocket, providing a stable, rigid support surface that protects the pocket from damage during cutting and ensures consistent insert positioning. This shim is configured for negative rake applications and is compatible with cylindrical inserts carrying a 1/2 inch (12.70 mm) inscribed circle. Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Before replacing the shim, ensure the machine is fully stopped, in an e-stop or locked-out state, and the spindle is confirmed stationary. Clean the toolholder pocket and inspect for pocket-seat damage before seating the new shim. Do not reuse a shim that shows cracks, deformation, or contact damage, as a compromised shim will not support the insert correctly and can lead to insert failure during cutting.
