The ISCAR 5504993 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the IDI-SG series, designed for precision hole-making in demanding machining applications. Carrying the IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this tip delivers thermal resistance and wear life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The cutting diameter is 0.449 inches (11.4 mm), the included point angle is 140 degrees, and the tip height is 0.217 inches (5.51 mm). A web-thinned, thinned-point geometry reduces thrust force at entry. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working on production drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials.
The 5504993 seats into size-11 IDI-SG series drill bodies and is suited for general-purpose drilling in both roughing and finish-drilling contexts. Its slow spiral, two-flute configuration is optimized for chip evacuation in the material grades it targets: ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. Typical applications include production drilling on CNC machining centers and lathes where replaceable-tip tooling reduces changeover time compared to solid-drill replacement. Conformance to ISO 13399 tooling data standards allows integration with CAM and tool-management systems.
Designed for use with ISCAR IDI-SG series replaceable-tip drill bodies accepting a size-11 insert seat. ISO number reference: IDI 114-SG.
Installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, energy-isolated state per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque wrench or key as specified by the IDI-SG drill body documentation — do not over-torque the twist-lock seat, as this can damage the insert pocket. Inspect the insert seat and coolant passages in the drill body for chips or debris before seating a new tip. This tip does not support coolant-through delivery.
