The ISCAR 5504977 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG 432-TF geometry, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured under the Isoturn series, this insert carries an IC907 grade designation and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting speeds. It features a 90-degree square shape with a positive rake configuration and a 0-degree relief angle (clearance code N). The 0.0315-inch corner radius and 0.5-inch inscribed circle make it well suited for medium to semi-finish turning passes. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators on compatible toolholders using the clamp and pin holding method.
This insert is appropriate for use across a broad range of workpiece materials. The IC907 grade with TiAlN PVD coating targets ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is used in production turning environments in aerospace, automotive, general machining, and energy sector shops. The TF chip breaker geometry promotes reliable chip control during medium-depth passes, with a rated maximum depth of cut of 0.1575 inches (4.00 mm).
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for SNMG 432 toolholders utilizing the clamp and pin holding method. Compatible with toolholder systems accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle square insert. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is removed or secured before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct clamp torque specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not rely on values from this insert specification. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
