The ISCAR 5504878 is a VCMT 332-SM turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide and coated with TiAlN and TiN via a PVD process, the IC907 grade delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials. The 35-degree diamond insert shape provides a sharp, low-cutting-force geometry with a positive rake angle, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. Key dimensions include a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, and an insert length of 0.6535 inches. The SM chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during moderate material removal.
The ISCAR 5504878 is intended for use on CNC turning centers and manual lathes where precise insert geometry and consistent surface finish are required. The IC907 grade with PVD TiAlN and TiN coating is optimized for cutting hardened materials, stainless steels, high-temperature alloys, and cast irons, corresponding to primary workpiece material groups H, M, and S. The VCMT insert style uses a screw-type holding method, compatible with standard VCMT-style toolholders. This insert is typically installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in VCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders. Compatible with workpiece material groups C1, C2, C6, and C7, and primary ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, including hardened steels, stainless steels, high-temperature alloys, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and general steels.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the screw-clamp; do not overtighten the clamping screw beyond the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and accurate positioning.
