The ISCAR 5504774 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT 3-2-SM geometry, manufactured under the Isoturn series. Coated with TiAlN and TiN via a PVD process, this insert is designed for positive-rake external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a 7-degree relief angle and an SM chip breaker configuration. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.3752 inch), with an insert length of 9.70 mm (0.3819 inch) and a corner radius of 1/32 inch (0.0315 inch). It is held in place by a screw-type clamping method and conforms to ISO 13399 standards.
This insert is suited for machining hardened materials, stainless steels, high-temperature alloys, and a broad range of workpiece materials including ISO P, M, K, N, S, and H material groups. It is typically used in production turning environments where consistent chip control and wear resistance are required. The SM chip breaker geometry performs well across moderate to light depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 3.00 mm (0.1181 inch).
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-on turning toolholders. Compatible with ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. Refer to ISCAR Isoturn series toolholder specifications for confirmed fitment.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Ensure the insert seat and pocket are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert to prevent edge damage or improper seating.
